On Sunday night's show I told you: "We shot the Iraqi army as they ran towards us and now the United States and the European Union have given Saddam Hussein the tools to launch a third-world invasion. It was inevitable he would launch it."
I was wrong.
And it isn't just the British, French, or German governments who are shocked, fearful and angry at what has happened. They all know that if he doesn't have weapons of mass destruction in Iraq by September, he will have a much harder time controlling a country that is the third most important oil supplier to the world, with a per capita annual GDP of $200 million.
The British government has been very open about this.
And no one should forget that in July 1999, David Miliband – the Labour prime minister then, and later his successor in the leadership – took over in Downing Street from Gordon Brown. He had just become an MP, but at the time there were only 37 members of parliament so there was very little chance of the party winning control, but he managed to do everything he could to placate MPs and keep him on.
The British press are now reporting that after 10 months in power, he did nothing. Instead they have been telling us that if the Iraq war has gone well – and they are pretty sure it is – we should expect to get another vote of no confidence before Labour leader Ed Miliband resigns at the end of the year.
And they should remember that by resigning, Ed will lose all he has built up on Iraq. The British and Australian governments who helped in the early stages of the war could say, "Here we are, we have a new prime minister with a different approach."
The British have been a lot worse. The United States had no such chance. I should note, too, that the Iraqi government was not in charge when the first Gulf War started. It was still working with the US administration at the time. They knew the stakes very well.
So this is a great example of how to win a war, and how, if we want to win it, we must win from within, without using foreign forces.
This is the lesson of those who started the Iraq war. I can give a list of the reasons they were right all along. They were right to choose an approach. They were right to put that approach to work.
They were right to make their case against Saddam Hussein.
They were right to put together the international coalition and to use it.
And they were right, too, to ask the whole world to come together to face up to this threat and, if we believe this is not going to be easy to do

Air travellers face tighter security at some of their favourite stops in Turkey, while a new measure that can ban flights from certain cities was put forward in April 2016.
On Tuesday, Turkey's president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, issued an executive decree setting up an anti-terror police unit, to investigate acts of terrorism and prevent attacks.
The president also unveiled plans for a new national identity card that would allow residents to trace their roots – something for which there is currently no national ID card in the country.
Erdogan has repeatedly blamed terrorists for recent attacks.
He said: "Terrorist attacks have occurred in major cities like Istanbul, Gaziantep, Antalya, Istanbul, Suruc and others. Terrorist attacks have targeted security forces.
"It is no secret that terrorists from Syria and Iraq have entered Turkey, and in this country we are fighting with this Islamic State [Daesh]."
The number of people travelling without passports hit a record of 434,000 last year, up from 325,000 in 2014, while the number of people who have been affected by terrorism or serious threats rose by 29% from 10,651 in 2014 to 15,621 this year.
The Government also plans to raise $4.7bn (£2.7bn) through public funding in order to hire 200,000 police officers.
Turkey has not suffered an international terror attack for more than a decade, when an Iraqi man with a suicide belt attacked a bus packed with 30 holidaymakers and six police officers in central Istanbul on 27 June 2016, killing himself before turning the knife on himself. The attacker, known locally as a "thugs" as he often sported an ISIS hat, killed himself after police tried to detain him.
